In 2020, after its annual meeting, NCN reached out to members to check their interest in leadership training. After getting a positive response from several members, NCN reached out to its ally NeighborWorks America, which has its own leadership program, including one involving Harvard Professor Marshall Ganz. An expert in labor organizing and leadership to create meaningful change, Ganz seemed a natural fit for helping Native CDFIs given their mission. NCN gathered a group of 15 members from around the country and launched a cohort focused on how Native CDFIs can create meaningful change by learning to tell their stories. The training happened in a condensed timeline of 23 hours over the course of a month, including Friday and Saturday sessions.
